Tattoo Removal – Before And After

It goes without saying that the best option in tattoo removal is not to have a tattoo that requires removing in the first place!

However if you have a poorly inked tattoo or worse yet an embarrassing tattoo with another woman’s name on removal may be the only option you have left. Another point worth mentioning is that you will probably have to pay for the treatment yourself as almost all insurance companies will refuse to pay for this type of cosmetic procedure.

The following methods can be used to remove tattoos:

Laser

This is usually a quick procedure taking just minuets a session depending on the size and complexity of the tattoo. The problem is it can take quite a number of sessions and they are not cheap. You can expect to pay several hundred dollars or more for complete removal.

Excision (Cut it out)

Under local anathetic a small portion of the tattoo is cut out and the skin stitched together. This works best with small tattoos although larger tattoos can be done small sections at a time.

Dermabrasion (Rub it down)

Again a local anaesthetic is used and the tattoos is literally sanded away. This procedure often causes bleeding to occur and a dressing will usually be applied.

Creams

A topical ointment is rubbed onto the skin and if the manufacturers are to be believed this causes the bodies natural systems to break down the tattoo causing it to fade over time.

The end result of any of the treatments is not usually perfect. Some sign of the tattoo is still left as either an area of slightly darker skin or some slight scarring.

Unless your tattoo really has to come off another option would be to disguise the tattoo in some way by maybe adding to the tattoo covering any unwanted lettering.

When selecting a tattoo design it is extremely important that the design you are going to have etched on to your body is one that you will be satisfied with for the rest of your life. Don’t make a hasty decision that you may end up regretting, as the cost of having an unwanted tattoo removed is extremely expensive. Think long and hard before you visit the tattoo parlor and commit to a specific design.

Many people make the critical mistake of selecting a tattoo design on the spot, often because they are pressured by friends or influenced by the tattoo artist. It is very important that, when choosing a particular design, you consider the reactions that the design will provoke from friends, family and the public in general. So, before you go ahead and choose a particular tattoo take the time to research the meaning or symbolism behind your particular selection. These days the internet is a fabulous source for investigating the true meanings behind the many tattoo designs that are now available.

A very popular tattoo design is, for example, the skull tattoo design. There are many reasons why people, particularly guys, select this particular design, including the fact that it invokes a degree of masculinity in the wearer. This is because of the implication that the skull tattoo design relates to fear, danger and death. Are the people who choose this design actually aware of the true meaning behind the design?
The true meaning of a skull tattoo design
There is actually a more in-depth meaning to the skull tattoo designs than just fear, danger and death – and in fact it was not originally conceived as a symbol to represent any of these things. It was instead originally used to represent the symbol of ‘great change’. In analyzing what the skull tattoo design traditionally meant in ancient society we discover that it was related to the happening of great changes and it is highly probable that its association with death grew because of the fact that death is the greatest change that we will experience.
Today it is extremely unfortunate that the majority of the general public does not understand the true meaning of a skull tattoo design, and when they see it they automatically relate the symbol to fear, danger and death. A lot of conservative people loathe the design because of its perceived meaning; however, if they were aware of the true meaning behind the skull tattoo design their views may be totally different.
If you decide that the skull tattoo design is the one for you, then your next step is to choose which genre you would like to go with. As the skull tattoo designs have been around for centuries the styles have somewhat evolved over time. The styles range from the old fashioned Jolly Roger, the pirate’s flag with the skull and cross bones or perhaps you would prefer the bio-mechanical style of skull – the choices are extensive and totally dependent on your personal taste.
So if you are interested in the skull tattoo design, or any other particular design, just take a little time to research the meaning symbolized by the design and if they are in alignment with your own true views then go ahead and adorn your body with this fantastic art work.

Cross tattoos are a popular choice if you’re looking for a design that’s iconic and rich with symbolism. But the origin of the cross design is unknown. The cross is one of the oldest and most basic designs known to humans. It has been used to decorate all manner of things including pottery and cloth for as long as humans can remember.

In ancient times the cross was used as part of the Aztec, Egyptian, Greek and Norse cultures for many centuries. The symbol of the cross was also used by various pagan religions that pre-date Christianity by thousands of years, and as a consequence cross tattoos are almost as old as the cross design itself.

Eventually, due to the rise of Christianity and the cross being a sign of execution by crucifixion, it became a symbol of Jesus’s death and subsequent resurrection. The Christian cross (a vertical line intersected at right angles approximately one third from the top) is used by followers to profess their faith and the clergy to bestow blessings. These days Christian tattoos are an exceptionally popular way for people to express their Christian faith

So why are cross tattoos so popular?

The cross design has a number of practical advantages. To begin with, it’s widely recognised and socially acceptable in most places. But beyond that it can be scaled to almost any size, placed anywhere on the body and can be combined with virtually any tattoo design. For example, it could be used in conjunction with flowers, words, animals etc to add greater meaning and individuality to the design. For these reasons a cross design is a popular choice of first tattoo with millions of people.

And finally, as already mentioned they convey a wide range of meanings to a wide range of people. However, cross tattoos are not only a sign of religious faith. Due to the number of symbolic meanings that can be held by the wearer of a tattooed cross, one person may use it to represent their religious beliefs while another person may just like the design. However, for the purposes of this article, we’ll consider the main types of religious cross tattoo designs.

1) The Latin Cross

The design of the Latin cross is one of the most instantly recognisable in the world. It consists of a vertical line that is intersected at right angles by a shorter horizonal line about one third of the way from the top, and as such is the design most closely connected with Christianity.

This simple cross design is a good choice for a first time tattoo. The design can be scaled to any size, it’s socially acceptable, it has a wide range of religious and spiritual meanings and it can be added to by further designs in the future. For example, if you have a basic latin cross, you could add a dove to the design to symbolize peace, you could add a shamrock to represent the Irish culture, or you could add the name and date of death to pay tribute to someone special who has died.

2) The Celtic Cross

Celtic cross tattoos are one of the best looking and most symbolic designs available. The basic design involves a standard latin style or Christian cross with a Celtic knot placed over the area where both lines cross over. Alternatively the border of the cross is surrounded by a series of Celtic knots.

These Celtic knots are designed in such as way that the strands of the design have no beginning and no end. This simple and elegant design is taken as a powerful symbol of the never ending nature of human life, while the knot itself represents the joining together of the physical and spiritual worlds.

The Celtic cross makes a great tattoo design and thanks to its long and symbolic history it is extremely popular among people from Scotland, Ireland and Wales who have pride in their Celtic heritage.

3) The St. Andrew’s Cross

The St Andrew’s cross differs from the traditional style of cross as it is shaped more like an X than a T. History says that the St Andrew’s cross came about after St Peter (who felt he was unworthy of the same death as his Lord) was crucified upside down. St Andrew followed the same belief and so the modified cross became linked to his name.

So these cross tattoos are great if you want to be slightly different from the rest of the crowd. And as St Andrew is the Patron Saint of Scotland, these cross tattoos are ideal for people with Scottish links who want to pay tribute to their ancestors.

You do not have to be particularly religious to have a cross design tattoo. However, many people do have spiritual beliefs and the cross often symbolizes those beliefs for them. Whilst many of us see the cross in only one way, it has actually been redesigned over the years and different beliefs use it in a different way. So, if your intention is to have a cross design tattoo for yourself, make sure that you learn a little more about them beforehand in order to get the right type of tattoo for you.

Non Christian Crosses

If you are looking for a non traditional, non Christian cross tattoo design, there are actually many to choose from. It all depends upon your beliefs or your own individual taste as to which ones you actually finally decide upon. Some of the most popular non-Christian crosses include:

The Greek Cross

This design in particular dates back quite a while. It is supposed to symbolize the sky and the God ‘Anu’ and it has also been linked as a sun worship symbol throughout the years.

The Tau Cross

Whilst this is widely used for non-Christian designs, it is still used in Christian designs too. The T shape in the design is used to symbolize the hammer of Thor and in some ancient Mayan inscriptions, there are people captured worshiping with a T-shaped cross and a bird perched on its horizontal arm. As well as that, this cross has also been used to represent the God ‘Tammuz’.

The Chinese Cross

Many people love the Chinese tattoo designs and the Chinese cross is certainly no different. The cross itself is associated with the Chinese ideogram for the word ‘earth’. Some Chinese people go by the old saying that ‘God fashioned the earth in the form of a cross’ and that is where their cross tattoo comes from. Many people who are not Chinese themselves, like the way that the Chinese think about this type of cross and that is what spurs them on to get one of their own.

Gothic Crosses

The Gothic cross has become more and more popular as time as gone on. There are many fans of the Gothic theme and Gothic crosses have fast caught up with Christian crosses as people like the way that they look. The cross itself is generally dark colored and it is designed in a Germanic style. They are associated with Anne Rice’s New Orleans tales.

Overall there are a large range of non-Christian crosses and the ones listed above are some of the most popular. So, if you are thinking of using a non-Christian cross as a tattoo design, ensure that you find out the true meanings behind them before rushing ahead and having one done regardless.

Lower Back Tattoos – Why Are They So Popular?

Lower back tattoos have been steadily growing in popularity since the early 1990’s. But since the millenium the growth in the number of these tattoos has been explosive.

And part of the reason for this surge in popularity is the general growth in the number of women who are getting tattoos. Lower back tattoos are almost exclusively worn by women and the fact that women account for an estimated 65% of all new tattoos goes part of the way to explain this modern trend.

Beyond that, tattoos placed on the lower back are widely regarded as a symbol of a highly sensual woman. Careful choice of design can help to highlight the curves of the female body, from the curve of the lower spine, to the hips and the top of the buttocks. And as such, placement of tattoos on this area of the body has become a way for women to celebrate their curves and express their sexuality.

But apart from the sensual aspect of these designs, there are many advantages of placing a tattoo on the lower back.

1) Long Lasting

The skin around the lower back is less likely to stretch in the event of weight gain, whether due to normal weight fluctuations or pregnancy. This is a major advantage as it reduces the risk of tattoo designs (especially symmetrical designs commonly used for lower back tattoos) becoming distorted and stretched.

2) Visually Flexible

Lower back tattoos are also extremely flexible in terms of visibility. A revealing top or low cut trousers will help to display the design to the world, while a quick change to more formal attire will easily conceal the wilder side of your personality. This flexibility is an important consideration for people who have to present a more sombre appearance in their professional lives.

3) Highly Personal

A lower back tattoo is a highly personal piece of body art. Not only does it sit on a semi-intimate part of your body, the design can be created to match the shape, size and flow of your curves. This helps to reflect your individuality and greatly increases the chances of ending up with a design that’s completely unique.

4) Wide Choice Of Designs

There’s a wide range of designs that can be incorporated into a lower back tattoo. For example, you could select a celtic design, or go for a floral motif, or how about a tribal design. In fact, almost any v-shaped, symmetrical design can be used, so the options are virtually endless. This allows you to search for a design that’s full of personal meaning and expresses part of your personality.

For example, as the lower back is a recognized chakra point, it’s closely connected with the flow of spiritual energy. So a tattoo that consists of energy radiating from the design represents someone who is full of energy and vitality. Alternatively, a floral lower back design is a sign of beauty and fertility.

However, this location for tattoo placement carries one major disadvantage. The lower back is generally recognized as one of the most painful areas of the body to have tattooed. Fortunately, women are better at tolerating pain and discomfort.

Yes, it’s official, most women have a higher pain threshold. According to numerous tattoo artists, women are much better than men when it comes to dealing with the pain of getting tattooed. Nobody knows why.

It could be due to gender based expectations. Men like to think that they’re macho and can withstand pain. This rather cavalier attitude causes them to underestimate the pain level and pass out as soon as the needle touches their skin.

On the other hand, women tend to anticipate the pain more accurately, helping them to avoid nasty surprises and maintain a higher level of tolerance.

And finally, while lower back tattoos are now widely accepted in many parts of the world, there are still some places and communities where they’re regarded as a symbol of promiscuity and low morals.

Although this is a rather minor issue for most people, it’s worth bearing in mind if you live in a particularly narrow minded part of the world or are overly concerned with what other people think of you.

Ultimately, your choice of tattoo design and placement is up to you. All that matters is that you find a combination which makes you feel good and has the ability to stand the test of time.

Tattoos, Tattoos, Tattoos ……take a look around you and you will observe that nearly every second man and women is sporting at least one tattoo these days. It seems that members of the young generation are, in ever increasing numbers, having tattoos etched on nearly every part of their bodies. The most common areas of the body for large tattoo designs are arms (both upper and lower regions) hands, and legs. Some more adventurous are having their tattoos on chest and upper back regions and some of the more daring are even having their scalp, face and neck tattooed. Since the start of the 1990’s the most popular of all places that women, both young and mature alike, are choosing to display their tattoo is on the lower back region, slightly above the hips/waist.

The lower back tattoo is quite often oblong in shape and is considered to enhance the curves and shapes of the female body. There are an untold number of reasons for this popularity, but probably the most common reason for women choosing this location for their tattoo is the fact that it is considered very attractive and sensual. In other words, a woman who displays such a tattoo believes that she becomes more attractive in the eyes of other people. Generally most women wish to be appealing to the opposite sex thus the explosion of the lower back tattoo!

The History And Origins of the Lower Back Tattoo

While the lower back tattoo has re-emerged in popularity over the last few years, it is certainly not a new design. This style of tattoo has in fact been around for hundreds of years, with its origins connected to ancient religions and spiritual rituals. In ancient times, the lower part of the back was considered the storage place of a person’s spiritual energy. This is quite similar to the notion of the chi force and meridian fields that are common to eastern cultures. Additionally, the concept of lower back energy is also found in certain styles of Yoga. It is therefore not surprising that this concept shares similar traits with other eastern religions as the practice of Yoga played an influential role within many types of eastern religions.

Historically, the lower back area emerged as a popular place to show off tattoos, as it was believed the tattooing in this region of the body would assist in the release and subsequent harnessing of a person’s internal energy. Regrettably much of the history supporting the lower back tattoo has been lost to all but the most knowledgeable scholars of the subject.

Many of the women wearing a lower back tattoo today are not necessarily familiar with the origins and the unique history of this type of tattoo. It is not imperative to understand the complete history, however, some knowledge of its origins may well add a unique aspect and significance to the tattoo as well as helping to explain to others why this particular style of tattoo was chosen.

With the tremendous advancement in fashion technology, a vast range of newer dimensions is being sought everyday. Tattoos are one of the most favourite fashion statements of the modern world. Some tattoos are “In” for men and some for women. The tattoos on lower backs are huge hits among girls and women nowadays.

The tattoos on lower backs are considered as a sex symbol for women. It is literally fun to exhibit your lower back with amusing designs. The lower back area is such that it accommodates fairly good design that can be either hidden or exposed depending on the need. Many horizontally expanding designs can find a place on this larger surface. Another plus point of this region is that the lower back area does not expand quickly with the increase in weight. At least, there is no variation in the tattoo size and structure. This makes the maintenance of the tattoo easier.

Horizontal designs like butterfly, spreading flower, fairies, heart etc are the popular tattoos on lower back. Literally sky is the limit for inking your lower back as it provides a good canvas for the tattoo artist. The traditional tribal designs are also in vogue for low back tattooing. Unique designs like dragons, lotus and other traditional symbols are widely used especially in the eastern countries for tattoos on lower backs.

In ancient scripts, the lower back is considered as a power center as the power resides in this area. Getting tattooed on lower back also has this special meaning for many people, as they want to arouse the lenient power within them. Many women also seek serpent tattoos on lower back since it is considered as a feminine force and a storehouse of subconscious knowledge. As the lotus symbolized wealth and divinity, it is also a favorite for tattoos on lower back. It is also a symbol of creativity and brightness.

There are literally hundreds of tattoo designs to choose from for the lower back area. It is absolutely not necessary to go for an already done symbol. You can give your imagination a run and customize your own masterpiece to exhibit on your lower back. You can take help of vast options available online and decide the design. But be cautious to select the design after considering all options because you definitely don’t want to harass yourself later by spending on removing the tattoo.

Only thing one should be careful about is the after-care of the tattoos on lower back. It is necessary to be cleaned and dressed until it is healed completely. As the lower back is considered as a painful area for tattoo, the care is a must in all cases. One more word of caution though- if you are pregnant, any tattoo can be harmful as there is more chance of bleeding, more so with the lower back tattoos because it may interfere with the epidural anaesthesia during childbirth. So, prepare everything in advance before going to the tattoo artist.

With wild imagination and creative skills, your lower back can be very sensual and erotic to show off over low rider pants or bikinis!

Although primitive in design they still resonate with us today and are in fact one of the most popular designs available today. Loosely the Celtic Knot Design is supposed to represent three of the elements earth, sky and sea.

These spiral designs and mazes look truly fantastic and if done well can really stand out from other more plain designs. A Celtic Tattoo shows you’ve done your research and haven’t just picked the first design you’ve seen. These designs are popular with many celebrities including Robbie Williams so if you pick this design you’ll be in good company

Some people believe the Celtic Knot also known as the endless knot and mystic knot symbolises eternity because it forms an endless loop.

This type of tattoo looks great on a bicep or as an armband tattoo around the upper arm. To get the best out of this intricate design make sure you use a highly skilled and experienced artist. Nothing looks worse than a poorly inked tattoo particularly a Celtic Knot.
